Facts without fear
A clinical case series found sedatives and other substances in samples from 56 people reporting spiked food or drinks. Occurrence is proven; national scale is not measured.
India’s crime reports do not track drink spiking as a separate category, so its true scale is unknown.
Cruelty by husband and relatives was the largest category of registered crimes against women in 2022 — about 31% of cases.
NFHS-5 (2019–21) found about 29.3% of ever-married women aged 18–49 reported experiencing spousal violence.
India’s national survey shows substantial alcohol and drug use in the population. It does not measure spiking at venues, or prove any rise.
Precautions may reduce exposure; they never transfer blame for someone else’s choice to harm.
Shared responsibility
What can—and cannot—do
A physical barrier that may reduce exposure. Not a guarantee against spiking, tampering or assault—and no replacement for trusted people or emergency services.
